i have just purchase an old fd and am currently bringing it back to its former glory,it came with 2 sets of sails in reasonable condition .one genoa has a foot length of 3.4 metres and the other is 3.1 metres, where i sail(augusta yacht club western australia)winds regularly reach 20 knots. i am interested in a smaller jib for such days and was wondering if any knows the measurements for the origanil jib of the fd. cheers derro

The measurment for a FD Jib is the lenght from the furlor to the sheeting point in the middle of the boat. The sail just has to fit inbetween the two points. A cut down is fine I guess but the balance of the boat in breeze will be a bit different. Just keep throwing rake into it until the boom is bashing the inside of the rear cockpit or you can get aqny rig tension. So I would suggest more clew hole in the jib and not a small jib to keep the balance of the boat in good order
