Folks – as back-up crew (FD 332) I don't presume to have a full vote in this debate but because I live at Manly everything over Spit Bridge is equally inconvenient so my view is untainted by personal preference.

As someone who wants to see the class prosper and has made some attempt to help that happen let me take up Ed's invitation to start the discussion here.

My logic is as follows:

1. We need more boats on the water

2. The complexity of the FD makes it a class for the committed (or possibly the institutionally committable) sailor therefore

3. We need to be visible to and approachable by sailors of other dinghy classes

4. Being at WSC allows us to politely evangelize to heathen 49er, 12, and other motley sinners that they should try an FD.

5. Clearly SFS is a sailing club too but it would appear we have more potentials at WSC – you only have to look at the yard to see it.

6. In the past month with almost no boats on the water we have had 3 serious takers for the offer from - two 12 crew and a lapsed 505 helm.

Certainly think 3 &4 are big points in favour of WSC...as well as the relative ease of launching (neither slipway is exactly easy to get an FD up)

The plus for SFS is certainly a very nice bar and restaurant there, and the fact that they have helped out the FD class in the past....but.....

on a more practical point - there is virtually no parking at SFS in short walking distance of the club that does not risk a huge parking fine

I don’t see it being an either/or position. Both clubs have pros and cons however I think we should have a presence in the WSC races, as the potential for drawing new recruits is greater there.

Personally I would like the option of sailing both. So once a month we have both a SFS and a WSC race to participate in.

Disclaimer: less voting rights than Kim as we sold Funky Squad yesterday.

P.s. Maybe the forum mod should send the SFS stalwarts an email explaining how to post However in the meantime copy the emails onto the board to show the SFS side.

There were good points made regarding both clubs. Also people had preferences for different days.

Ultimately, to keep a cohesive class it is proposed that the timetable include racing at both clubs, but never on the same weekend. I am finalising a timetable to be confirmed shortly.

Thank you to everyone for their comments. Looking forward to seeing more boats on the start line this season, which is after all, what the whole class wants and needs.

First version of the racing calendar is now on the Racing page - just awaiting confirmation from SFS on the dates to race there, and then that will be upated as well.

Haven't heard anything final yet - we are still chasing the SFS for details
